Bizarre Bazaar

The 26th annual Bizarre Bazaar, or “BizBaz,” as it’s affectionately known, will be held Nov. 28 and 29 at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. As in years past, expect wacky and wonderful goods on sale from more than 100 artists, as well as live music and a bake sale. Festival of Trees

Nearly 60 trees and 25 wreaths decorated and donated by local groups and individuals will be on display at this year’s Festival of Trees, Dec. 1 to 4 at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. The event, now in its 28th cycle, commences with the Gala Auction Party on Dec. 2, where trees and wreaths will be bid off to benefit The Shelter, Inc. “Mary Poppins”

The “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” show will run from Dec. 5 to 21 at Theatre Lawrence, 4660 Bauer Farm Drive. Based on the children’s book by P.L. Travers, the stage production features familiar tunes from the 1964 Disney movie as well as a few added numbers. Tickets can be purchased online, in person or by calling 843-7469. Season ticket holders may reserve spots now; public sales begin Monday.

The former Rilo Kiley frontwoman will take the stage at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. The indie rocker’s newest album, “The Voyager,” dropped this summer to positive reviews after she took a few years off. Snag tickets online or at the Liberty Hall box office.

Festival of Nativities

This annual event features nearly 400 nativity sets crafted with a variety of materials and collected from all over the world. The festival, hosted by Centenary United Methodist Church, 245 N. Fourth St., will be open from noon to 4 p.m. during the first three weekends of December.

Winter Wonder Weekend

The long-standing Lawrence Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade, now in its 22nd year, will kick off a new tradition this holiday season: Downtown Lawrence Inc.’s Winter Wonder Weekend. Beginning with the annual parade on Dec. 6, the city will host a number of festive, artsy activities through the weekend, from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Gingerbread Festival & Auction to the 43rd annual Lawrence Art Guild Holiday Art Fair to live caroling by the Lawrence Civic Choir, all in the heart of downtown Lawrence. “The Last Cyclist”

“The Cyclists are responsible for all of our misfortunes!” “Why the cyclists?” “Why the Jews?” This biting quip, which emerged in Europe between the world wars, provided the inspiration behind Kansas University’s upcoming production, “The Last Cyclist.” The absurdist cabaret, written by Czech playwright Karel Švenk in 1944 during his imprisonment at inside the Terezin Concentration Camp near Prague, captures the unfathomable conditions created by Nazi leadership as well as the resilience of the artists inside the camp. Performances will run Dec. 6 through 11 at Murphy Hall’s Inge Theatre. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 864-3982.

“It’s a Wonderful Life”

If you’re not in the holiday spirit already, try heading to Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., on Dec. 7 for a special screening of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The 1947 Frank Capra classic, starring James Stewart and Donna Reed, is sure to do the trick. Catch a show at 4 or 7 p.m. Admission is $7 for seniors and children under 12, and $8 for everyone else.

“A Kansas Nutcracker”

Dubbed “1856 Bleeding Kansas Edition,” the newest incarnation of the reimagined Tchaikovsky ballet integrates the sacking of Lawrence and the Pottawatomie and Osawatomie Massacres. The production, which features a live orchestra and nearly 150 cast members this year, opens Dec. 12 at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., and closes Dec. 21. KPR’s Sixth Annual Big Band Christmas

The wintry celebration, set for Dec. 13 at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., will feature performances from the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra and special guest vocalists Kathleen Holeman and Ron Gutierrez. KPR also asks attendees to share the holiday spirit by bringing non-perishable food items to the concert to be donated to Just Food. Ticket information can be found online.
