• The Friends of the Library supports the operations of the Lawrence Public Library. The organization needs volunteers to assist with the upcoming book sale. Tasks include greeting, restocking and straightening materials, and assisting shoppers. Sales dates include Nov. 28-29. • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County provides one-to-one relationships for children facing adversity. The agency is looking for volunteers to help with the 19th Annual Gingerbread House Festival on Dec. 6-7. All proceeds from this fundraising event go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County. • Ten Thousand Villages-Lawrence is a nonprofit fair trade retailer of artisan products from about 40 developing countries. The retailer needs volunteers to support the social media manager in engaging people through Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, the company website and email listing. • Lawrence Habitat for Humanity works with low-income families to give them the opportunity to own their own home. Lawrence Habitat invites you to use your special skills in a new, creative way by serving on the Women Build committee. Women Build is Habitat for Humanity’s program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes for communities. No experience is necessary. Our committee fundraises, builds, advocates, plans, engages, empowers and brainstorms — everything and anything to help build a home for a local, deserving family and spread awareness about the mission of Habitat for Humanity. • The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence provides before and after school programming to over 1,400 children at 14 sites across Lawrence, striving to give members the skills needed to become successful adults, focusing on academic enrichment, healthy lifestyles and good character and citizenship. The club is looking for volunteers to assist with their KidzLit program reading to students and participating in literacy based activities. The successful volunteer will enjoy working with small groups of children and have a passion for literature that can be passed on to children. The KidzLit books are already selected and lesson plans created. All you need to do is have fun engaging the students. • The LINK Community Thanksgiving Dinner is in need of food donations. Needed are gallon cans of green beans, 9-by-13 pans of mashed potatoes, 9-by-13 pans of stuffing, gallons of milk, and pies. • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County provides one-to-one relationships for children facing adversity. For a few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a “Little” the invaluable gift of your friendship. Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for a male mentor to spend time with a 6-year-old boy on our waiting list. This young man is friendly, outgoing and enjoys spending time outdoors. He is interested in cooking, playing games and doing arts and crafts.
