US Rep. Pompeo wins new term easily in Kansas 4th

? Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo has easily won re-election in the 4th District of south-central Kansas against an underfinanced Democratic opponent.

Pompeo defeated Democrat Perry Schuckman of Wichita in Tuesday’s election. Schuckman is the former director of a nonprofit agency.

The Republican was seeking his third two-year term.

Schuckman reported raising less than $17,000 in contributions since launching his campaign in April and went into the final three weeks of the campaign with only $448 in cash on hand.

Pompeo had more than $1.2 million in cash on hand in mid-October, after raising $458,000 after mid-July.

The congressman’s more notable race was in the GOP primary. He easily defeated his predecessor in office, Todd Tiahrt, who gave up the seat in 2010 to run unsuccessfully for the Senate.
