Lawrence Habitat for Humanity works with low-income families to give them the opportunity to own their own home. Lawrence Habitat is searching for individuals to join the Resource Development Committee. The Resource Development Committee makes sure that Lawrence Habitat has all the resources it needs to support its work and meet its goals. The committee’s tasks include securing donations, making fund development plans, and planning and raising money for events. For more information, please contact Maddie Hinds at maddie@lawrencehabitat.org or at 785-832-0777.

Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging advocates for aging issues, builds community partnerships and implements programs to help seniors live independent and dignified lives. JAAA is seeking volunteers to assist with the process of enrolling people in the CHAMPSS meal program in Lawrence. Volunteers are needed once a month for a two-hour time period. Tasks involve setting up and taking down tables and chairs, as well as, assisting CHAMPSS customers to ensure their enrollment forms are completed. A one-time hour of training is provided before a volunteer assists customers. CHAMPSS orientations will be held at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium at 2 p.m. on November 10, December 8, and January 5.  Attendees who qualify will be given an opportunity to sign up for the meal program, which provides people 60 and older with meals at Hy-Vee. The Cover Kansas Project provides accurate information and assists with the application and enrollment process for the federally facilitated health insurance marketplace. The Cover Kansas Project is seeking 10 to 15 student volunteers to help reach uninsured Kansans during the second open enrollment period, which begins Nov. 15 and runs through February. Volunteers reach uninsured members of their community by assisting at enrollment events and assisting with community outreach. Volunteers will be asked to work at a minimum of four events in the Lawrence and Kansas City areas. At the events, volunteers will provide information about the health insurance marketplace, distribute promotional materials and assist with the application and enrollment process. The city of Lawrence will be hosting the NAIA 2014 Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 22. The Championship Meet needs volunteer course marshals from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please contact Bob Sanner at the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau at 785-856-5302 or at sports@visitlawrence.com.

The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence will be hosting its annual Mason’s Thanksgiving Dinner Nov. 25 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds for 250 of its members from select sites. Volunteers are needed to set up tables and chairs at 2 p.m. and to clean up at 5:30 p.m. Each shift should take no more than an hour. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County provides one-to-one relationships for children facing adversity. Are you looking to make a difference in the life of a young boy in our community? For a few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a “Little” the invaluable gift of your friendship. Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for a male mentor to spend time with a 6-year-old boy on our waiting list. This young man is friendly and outgoing and enjoys spending time outdoors. He is interested in cooking, playing games and doing arts and crafts.
