Today in Lawrence: Warm weather, good music and a farmers’ market experience

A large crowd gathers around the South Park gazebo to listen to the final Lawrence City Band concert of the summer Wednesday, July 17, 2013.

May flowers

Did you spend time gardening on Memorial Day? Warm temperatures and a few showers might help your newly planted landscaping. Today’s forecast, with a high of 88 and a few isolated showers from noon to 5 p.m., are just the ticket to help you avoid turning on the sprinklers. Let it rain!

City Band taking stage

Welcome the summer with live music in the park. The Lawrence City Band Concert Series kicks off with “An Exciting New Season in the Park” at the South Park Bandstand, 12th and Massachusetts streets. The eight-week series is free and open to the public. Music starts at 8 p.m., so bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the sound of summer!

Eat fresh, eat local

If you missed the Lawrence Farmers’ Market on Tuesday, or you just can’t get enough fresh produce, eggs and homemade fudge (and really, who CAN get enough?), stop by the Clinton Parkway Nursery Farmers’ Market. The nursery’s market is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 4900 Clinton Parkway. The market sets up in the parking lot, so please park in the grass.
