Regional schedules revealed; FSHS soccer to host game

Free State High’s girls soccer team will host one more home game this season.

The Firebirds (10-6), a No. 7 seed in the Class 6A Central regional, will face 10th-seeded Wichita South (7-8-1) at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

LHS girls soccer (6-10) is the No. 13 seed in the Northeast Regional and will play at No. 4 Shawnee Mission West (11-5) at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Baseball

The FSHS baseball team earned a No. 3 seed in its regional with a 12-8 record and will face Topeka High (7-13) at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hummer Park in Topeka. If the Firebirds win, they will advance to the regional championship game that evening against Topeka Washburn Rural (17-3) or Olathe North (6-14).

Lawrence High’s baseball team (10-10) will head to a regional in Manhattan for the second straight year, this time as a No. 5 seed. The Lions will face fourth-seeded Olathe Northwest (10-10) at 2 p.m. Tuesday. A victory would place LHS in the regional championship against Manhattan (18-2) or Wyandotte (3-13).

Softball

The Lions’ softball team earned a No. 3 seed with a 13-7 record and will head to the CBAC complex in Olathe on Tuesday. Lawrence will play Topeka High (9-11) at 4:45 p.m. With a victory, the Lions would face Olathe Northwest (16-4) or Manhattan (6-14) in the regional championship.

Free State’s softball team (11-9) is a No. 4 seed in its regional and will face No. 5 Olathe North (10-10) at 2 p.m. Thursday at Washburn Rural. A FSHS victory would put them in the regional finals later that evening against Washburn Rural (18-2) or Junction City/St. Xavier (5-15).

May 19 update:With the threat of inclement weather, there have been changes in Free State’s baseball and softball regional schedules. The baseball team will play its regional game(s) on Wednesday, starting at 4 p.m. against Topeka High at Hummer Park in Topeka. The softball team is also playing on Wednesday, facing Olathe North at 2 p.m. at Washburn Rural.
