Today in Lawrence: KU graduation weekend

Merge Records duo Wye Oak is at The Granada on Saturday night.

Throw your caps, burn your textbooks and hand your car keys over to someone responsible. It’s graduation weekend at Kansas University!

The weather will be cool but lovely today and Saturday — highs in the low to mid 60s with clear skies and little chance of rain. But we could get a few showers Sunday afternoon, when temperatures warm up into the 70s.

If you’re looking for some pre- or post-graduation party fun, give one of these a try:

Forget Paris

“It’s le freakin’ weekend,” R. Kelly once so geniusly penned. So why not catch a screening of “Le Week-end,” Roger Michell’s latest, at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachussetts St. The masterful new film starring Jim Broadbent, Lindsday Duncan and Jeff Goldblum on location in the City of Light opens today and runs all le weekend. Screenings: 1:30, 4:20, 7:05 and 9:05 p.m. Friday-Sunday.

Remember Baltimore

It’s been a long time coming for Wye Oak, Merge Records artists Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack’s project from the rocky shores of Maryland. But here they come back to Lawrence, touring for their freshly released record, “Shriek,” which Pitchfork called “effortless and sure of itself.” They’re at The Granada at 9 p.m. Saturday (doors at 8), and you should see them. Tickets: $15. Don’t believe us? Check out Nadia Imafidon’s recent interview with the duo at Lawrence.com.

Spring into Summer!

The annual, all-night tradition at the Replay Lounge, 946 Massachusetts St., starts at 5 p.m. Saturday with hip-hop artist Approach, then Paper Buffalo, OILS, Drakkar Sauna, Gnarly Davidson, Psychic Heat, The Conquerors and Mouthbreathers. Bonus: Taco Zone will be in full swing. $3 cover.

Save the ‘Last Dance’

And what graduation weekend would be complete without some Tom Petty? Frank’s North Star, 508 Locust St., is hosting a Tom Petty Tribute Night starting at 10 p.m. Saturday. Heartbreakers hits and more. $4 cover.
