Man hospitalized after moped crash

A man who crashed his moped near the intersection of 19th Terrace and Naismith Drive on Friday wound up in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to Lawrence police.

Sgt. Myrone Grady, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, said the man was traveling westbound on 19th Terrace when a door from a parked car on the side of the road opened, causing him to swerve. Grady said the driver “over-corrected” and hit the median. The accident occurred at about 3:45 p.m.

Grady said the man was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with a foot injury and a few scrapes. He said responders were initially led to believe the driver suffered a head injury, but that proved false. He was a wearing a helmet, Grady said.

“He’s going to be OK,” he said.
