LHS softball sweeps doubleheader, 29-2

? The Lawrence High softball team converted 35 hits into 29 runs on its way to a doubleheader sweep of Shawnee Mission North on Thursday.

The Lions won their first game, 15-0 in five innings. Morgan Byrn led LHS on offense, tallying 5 RBIs on 3-for-4 batting, including two doubles. Megan Sumonja (6-4) picked up the win on the mound, limiting SMN to one hit while striking out eight batters in five innings.

Byrn had a home run and batted in another five runs in the late game, which LHS won, 14-2. Jolona Shield (7-3) earned the complete-game victory, allowing one run on five hits and striking out three.

Lawrence High had 15 hits go for extra bases during the twinbill. Seven players in each game had at least one RBI, led by Byrn (10 total RBI) and Kristen Gile (5 total RBI).

The Lions finished the regular season 13-7 and will take the field next for regional play.
