Style Scout: Bret Ivy
Name: Bret Ivy
Age: 20
Hometown: Neodesha
Time in Lawrence: Two years
Relationship status: Currently single
Occupation: I’m currently a sophomore and a journalism major.
Dream job: I absolutely love broadcast journalism. My dream job would be calling Red Sox games up in Boston or doing something within sports journalism.
What were you doing when scouted? I just had a good dinner at Merchant’s Pub and I’m on my way to Alpha Tau Omega’s formal.
Describe your style: Normally, I try to appear classy every day. I usually wear a collar, sometimes a tie and dress shoes almost every single day; it’s just something that kind of makes my personal brand, and me, stand out a little bit more.
Fashion trends you love: I’m a big fan of big-rim glasses that I spend way too much money on! I also love wingtip shoes and any type of casual blazer.
Fashion trends you hate: I understand that people wear yoga pants in public, but let’s be honest: that’s for comfort and I can respect that.
Fashion influences: I read a lot of GQ and Esquire. I just see what’s out there in popular culture.
What would you like to see more or less of in Lawrence? I’d love to see more business-casual in public. It would be cool to see a whole bunch of people dressed up nice with nowhere to go! It kind of creates something that would make people stop, look and say, “Hey, there’s a classy group of guys walking along.” Less of? Less baggy sweaters and yoga pants unless it’s for comfort.
Whom do people say you look like? Some people say that I look like comedian Bo Burnham.
Tell us a secret: A lot of people don’t know that when I was a kid, I was actually really fat! But since I’ve grown up I’ve lost a lot of that weight.
