Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Douglas, Jefferson counties

UPDATE: At 9:30 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Douglas and Jefferson counties that will last until 4 a.m. Sunday.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has cancelled the severe thunderstorm warning for northwester Douglas County.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:45 p.m. for northwestern Douglas County, southwestern Jefferson County, northern Osage County and southeastern Shawnee County.

At 5:50 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Auburn and moving northeast at 40 mph. The storm included golf-ball sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Trained weather spotters reported ping-pong sized hail in Burlingame at 5:40 p.m.

Locations affected include Topeka, Berryton, Lecompton and Clinton Lake.
