Overland Park ? Matia and Rebecca Finley once again led Lawrence High’s girls track team.

Matia and Rebecca finished 1-2 in the discus with marks of 145 feet, 4 inches and 132-10 at the Shawnee Mission North Relays.

Matia was runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 38-101/2.

The Lions had a first-place finish on the track as well, with the 4×400-meter team of Leah Gabler, Kyleigh Severa, Marissa Pope and Jensen Edwards coming in at a time of 4:00.23.

“We looked good on the field and the track,” LHS coach Jack Hood said.

Lawrence High had four competitors place on the boys side, with Tae Shorter leading the way. Shorter finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 43-10 and seventh in the long jump at 20-113/4.

Free State’s results weren’t available Friday night.

LHS and Free State will return Friday to Shawnee Mission North for the Sunflower League Championships.

May 10 update: Free State senior Bailey Sullivan set a new school record in the 800-meters and her first place finish helped the Firebirds’ girls take second at the meet.

Sullivan’s time of 2:15.58 in the 800 is also the fastest in Kansas this year.
