Today in Lawrence: Farmers’ market, Tony Horwitz

Shea Greenwell, 4, works on eating a honey stick while his mother, Karen Hanneman, right, who operates the Queen of Tarts pastry stand talks with Lawrence resident Allyn Elliott on April 12, the first day of the Lawrence Farmers' Market.

Two for Tuesday

It’s Saturday morning, and you know what that means — the Lawrence Farmers’ Market is taking over the parking lot at 824 New Hampshire St. … wait, or are we seeing double? Do-over: It’s Tuesday afternoon, and the Lawrence Farmers’ Market is taking over the parking lot at 824 New Hampshire St., from 4 to 6 p.m. That’s right, the market is moving to two-a-weeks for summer, just in time for asparagus season. Get out there in the amazing weather this evening and support your local growers and crafters.

Pipeline piper

From 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, don’t miss Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Horwitz skyping into the Carnegie Building, 200 W. Ninth St., to discuss his new ebook, “BOOM.” Last summer, Horwitz traveled nearly 4,000 miles of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline and wrote about not only the political and energy sides of the story, but also the human side — the “man camps,” strip joints, and characters that have popped up in conjunction with the pipeline construction. Don’t miss this free discussion hosted by the Lawrence Public Library.

Heat wave

Finally, though we won’t match Wichita topping 100 degrees Sunday, the early summer will continue this afternoon with a high of 86, partly cloudy skies and no thunderstorms. Wednesday: High of 88, then we’ll cool off with rain showers and temps in the mid 70s to round out the week.
