• Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Endowment Association will host a free seminar as part of its “Healthy, Wealthy and Wise” series.

The seminar will focus on how those growing into their senior years can make plans for the future, such as when to stop driving and how to get extra care. It will be held May 14 at the Arterra Event Gallery, 2161 Quail Creek Drive.

• Morgan Stanley, a brokerage and investment advisory firm, recently announced that Emily Bowersock Hill has been promoted to senior vice president of the Wealth Management office in Lawrence. Hill, a Lawrence native, has worked with Morgan Stanley since 2002.

• Capitol Federal will host a paper shredding day at the bank’s West Lawrence location at 1025 Iowa St. May 5.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants can shred up to two bags or boxes of paper documents at no cost.

• Kansas University announced its two employees of the month for April: Lynn George and Margan Swartzlander.

George is a senior recruitment coordinator in the human resources department and Swartzlander is a graduate advisor for the College Office of Graduate Affairs.

• Kansas Advocates for Better Care, a statewide nonprofit organization that advocates for improved quality long-term care, recently received the 2014 Liberty Bell Award by the Douglas County Bar Association.

Curtis Barnhill, the president of the bar association, said in a statement: “Kansas Advocates for Better Care speaks out for and with older adults who sometimes are not able to make their voices heard beyond the walls of a facility.”
