25 years ago: Local activist honored for community service

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 5, 1989:

The Douglas County Bar Association this week presented longtime local resident Anne B. “Petey” Cerf with the Liberty Bell Award for extraordinary community service. Mrs. Cerf had been an integral part of many local organizations, including the Ballard Center, the Achievement Place for Boys, Trinity Foster Home. Douglas County Visiting Nurses, and Valleyview Nursing Home, and had lobbied strongly at the state level for nursing home improvement. “Petey is undeniably generous, controversial, opinionated and confrontational,” the lawyers group said. “She has inspired us to recognize our duties to help those who cannot help themselves maintain their freedom, dignity and integrity under the law. Our community is a far richer and stronger community for her presence.”
