KU Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony to perform shared concert

The Kansas University Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony will perform a shared concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lied Center to conclude this season's School of Music Lied Center Series.

The program will include “Pageant” by Vincent Persichetti, conducted by graduate student conductor Benjamin G. Harper; “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy Aldridge Grainger; and “The Gum-Suckers March,” also by Grainger, conducted by graduate student conductor Luke D. Johnson.

Director of KU Bands Paul Popiel will lead the opening piece of the Wind Symphony program, Giuseppe Verdi’s “Overture to ‘La forza del destino.’” The program will conclude with “Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber” by Paul Hindemith.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children, seniors and students, and can be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office by phone at 864-2787 or online at lied.ku.edu.
