FSHS baseball trips BVN

? Jacob Pavlyak hit a two-run single in a three-run fourth inning, and Ryan Cantrell and Casey Hearnen combined on a six-hitter as Free State defeated Blue Valley North, 3-1, on Saturday in high school baseball.

Blue Valley North took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Firebirds scored three in the third on Pavlyak’s two-run hit and a run-scoring single by Ty Walmsley.

Cantrell allowed one run on four hits in four innings, and Hearnen yielded two hits while striking out five in three innings.

Cameron Pope’s triple was the only extra-base hit for the Firebirds.

“We got a key hit today from Jacob Pavlyak,” Free State coach Mike Hill said, “and I thought our pitching and defense were exceptional. We were fortunate to hang on for a victory. Casey Hearnen was terrific in relief, and Ryan Cantrell was also effective in the start.”

The Firebirds (10-6) will host Olathe North on Tuesday.
