FSHS baseball falls to ONW

? Free State High’s baseball team overcame one early error and forced extra innings Thursday at Olathe Northwest, but more miscues late cost the Firebirds in a 5-4, nine-inning loss.

FSHS trailed 4-0 after a first inning in which the ball got away from the Firebirds on an attempted double play.

Free State’s offense remained quiet until the seventh inning, when Cameron Pope hit a two-out, three-run triple. Jon Saathoff followed with a base hit to score Pope and tie the game.

Pitcher Ryan Stagg kept FSHS in the game, but a second Firebird error in the ninth moved the winning run into scoring position, and the Ravens won it by scoring on a wild pitch with two outs.

Free State (9-5) will face O-South at 4 p.m. today at CBAC.
