One ejected, hospitalized after roll-over accident on U.S. Highway 56

A Topeka woman was taken to Stormont Vail Health Care early Sunday morning after a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 56 in Baldwin City.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 31-year-old Matthew D. Zajic, of Vassar, was driving eastbound in the 900 block of Highway 56 at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday when he drove off the north side of the highway into the ditch. The vehicle, a 2003 Nissan Altima, rolled over and landed on its wheels.

The front-seat passenger, 29-year-old Amanda Laurel Goodnow, of Topeka, was ejected. When officers arrived, they discovered Goodnow lying beside the vehicle.

Goodnow was transported by ambulance to Stormont Vail Health Care in Topeka. Her condition was unavailable Sunday.

According to Highway Patrol, neither Zajic nor Goodnow were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
