FSHS baseball loses first game

March 30, 2014

— The Free State High baseball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling 9-3 to Nixa High School.

The Firebirds scored all three of their runs in the top of the fourth, but Nixa plated four in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead.

“We were playing well and had the lead in the fifth, but had a couple of miscues,” Free State coach Mike Hill said.

Free State starting pitcher Casey Hearnen took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season. All four of the Firebirds’ hits were singles.

FSHS (3-1) will return home for its Sunflower League opener at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Shawnee Mission East.
