Emporia ? Free State High sophomore Cierra Campbell turned in the top times in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle to lead the girls swimming team to a first-place finish in the Emporia Invitational on Thursday at Emporia High.

Campbell, who finished in the top five in both events at last year’s state tournament, had a time of 1:59.37 in the 200 free and 5:17.66 in the 500 free.

Junior Courtney Caldwell won the 100-yard butterfly by more than five seconds and junior Eliza Anderson touched the wall ahead of senior teammate Lucy Sirimongkhon-Dyck to win the 100-yard backstroke. Anderson also took second place in the 200 free, just behind Campbell.

The Firebirds won all three of the relays: Lucy Sirimongkhon-Dyck, Sydney Sirimongkhon-Dyck, Caldwell and Anderson in the 200-yard medley; Sydney Sirimongkhon-Dyck, Alexa Malik, Kara Krannawitter, and Caldwell in the 200-yard freestyle; Anderson, Campbell, Lucy Sirimongkhon-Dyck, and Caldwell in the 400-yard freestyle.

Lawrence High senior Allison Williams finished in first place in the one-meter dive and Mary Reed-Weston took second place in the 200-yard individual medley and third in the 100-yard breaststroke to help the Lions to a 5th-place finish.
