Softball opening: Lawrence 5 Tool Softball is looking to fill two to three spots for a competitive 2014 spring/summer season. It will be the second year for the 12U Inferno team, which will be playing league ball in Lawrence and also several tournaments in the surrounding area throughout the spring and summer. Vintage baseball: A vintage baseball game will be held at 2 p.m., May 18 at Broken Arrow field No. 1. The game is dedicated in memory of South paraprofessional and Lawrence High graduate Travis Sanders, and in honor of Will Fernandez, South Middle School principal who will be retiring in May.

5K and 2K fitness walks: A non-competitive fitness walk will be held on April 12, weather permitting. No times will be kept, and there is no registration fee; however, participants are encouraged to bring a can of food, which will be donated to the Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry. Participants should meet in the Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, at 13th and New Hampshire, at 10:00 a.m. to fill out an entry form and sign a waiver. Scholar-athlete dinner: The Sunflower Chapter of the National Football Foundation will hold its 21st Annual Scholar-Athlete Dinner at 6 p.m., April 23 at the Anderson Football Complex at Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium. Dr. Sheahon Zenger, KU athletic director, will be the keynote speaker. Eleven high school scholar-athletes from throughout the state plus a coach of the year and an official of the year will be honored. Basketball camps: Kansas University women’s basketball will hold four camps this summer. Lacrosse practices: Lacrosse practices will be held for boys and girls (all Lawrence schools in Lawrence and surrounding cities) in fifth-12th grades from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning April 1 and 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturdays at Broken Arrow Park (31st and Louisiana streets).
