Laura D. Routh wins League of Women Voters’ 2014 Helen Fluker Award

Laura D. Routh will receive the Lawrence-Douglas County League of Women Voters’ Helen Fluker Open and Accessible Government Award, which honors a Douglas County resident who has shown leadership in promoting citizen participation in government.

Over the past year, Routh served as chairwoman of the Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods, promoting public education of city issues such as rental registration and Rock Chalk Park, the league said in announcing the award. Routh is also a founding member of MadreLawrence, which works to boosts diversity and public participation in local government. Additionally, Routh has been a continuous presence at City Hall, advocating for opening the decision-making process to the public.

The League of Women Voters will hold an award luncheon for Routh at 11:30 a.m. March 22 at Brandon Woods’ Smith Center, 4730 Brandon Woods Terrace. Lunch is $14 per person. To make a reservation, contact Marjorie Cole at 842-6085 or nobledog@aol.com before March 20.
