Installing a claw-foot tub shower kit is an easy and straightforward project. The key is having a tub that is positioned so the ceiling and wall support brackets will hold the shower curtain rod at an appropriate height and location.

Step 1: Shut the water supply off to the claw-foot tub and remove the existing faucet. Clean the area around the tub openings.

Step 2: Roll some plumbers putty into a thick snake and press it around the openings of the faucet holes on the inside of the tub.

Step 3: Wrap the new faucet nipples with a few layers of Teflon tape. Press the faucet firmly into place and tighten the two retaining nuts onto the backside of the faucet nipples. Make sure the faucet is level and secure before proceeding.

Step 4: Install bathcock elbows on the backside of each of the faucet nipples. Bathcock elbows are specifically designed for claw-foot tub faucet installations. Their formed end has a compression like nut that threads onto the faucet nipple, making a water-tight connection. The other end of the elbow has standard 1/2-inch male pipe threads.

Step 5: Wrap the male pipe threads of the bathcock elbows with Teflon tape and attach the water supply lines to the elbows.

Step 6: Wrap the male pipe threads of the shower riser with Teflon tape and assemble the riser per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 7: Assemble the shower rod kit per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 8: Install the shower riser onto the tub faucet.

Step 9: Using the size of the shower rod kit and the location of the riser, determine the correct location for the ceiling-mounted support bracket. Use the appropriate mounting hardware to attach the ceiling mount bracket securely to the ceiling.

Step 10: Attach the wall support to the shower riser. Use the appropriate mounting hardware to attach the wall support flange securely to the bathroom wall.

Step 11: Install the shower rod. It is easiest if there is a second person to hold the rod in place while it is being attached to both the shower riser and the ceiling support rod.

Step 12: Once the shower rod is mounted in place and the shower riser is secure, turn the water supply back on and check for leaks.

Step 13: Test the faucet and shower, install a pair of shower curtains and enjoy!
