From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 6, 1974:

• The heads of Kansas University and Kansas State released a joint statement this week to their basketball fans asking them to “exercise sportsmanlike conduct” at a critical Big Eight Conference game coming up at Allen Fieldhouse. The game was expected to draw a capacity crowd and was to be televised regionally, and officials of the two schools wanted attendees to follow the NCAA code of conduct. Among other things, they requested fans to root for their own team, not boo opponents or officials; keep silent during free throw attempts; be courteous and good sports; and “remember, it’s a game with a respected opponent, not a fight with a bitter enemy.” “We want this to be a memorable occasion for our state,” said KSU President James McCain and KU Chancellor Archie Dykes. Both schools had been having problems with crowd behavior during this season.
• A Kansas University task force this week recommended that KU acquire two computers to replace its overburdened Honeywell 635 machine. The Computer Resources Task Force had concluded that in terms of “flexibility and growth, ability to meet peak demands and management ease,” it would be best to have a two-computer system, using one for instruction and research and the other for administration. “Major additional facilities” would be needed to implement the new system, according to the task force’s report.
