Kyla Strid sets up her exhibition Waggle

An outsider view

Get a closer look at art with the Lawrence Arts Center’s INSIGHT Art Talk on Waggle Dance, an exhibition by Kyla Strid, the 2013-2014 ceramics artist in residence. Borrowed from the bees and inspired by daily experiences in a life of travel, Strid’s work features the places, people, plants, books, conversations, foods, or insects encountered in her changing environments. Hear more about her work at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.

Time to explore

Let kids explore during the Summer in the City’s last Exploratorium event. This Lawrence Public Library activity has been moved to Liberty Hall because of repairs to the Carnegie Building. Bring your gang to Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for learning and exploring about science and reading! The activities are open to children ages 7 to 11.

Knitting club

First-timer knitters to seasoned crochet pros, all are welcome to Ripping Yarns. Lead by local expert Camille, there will be a pro on hand to help you get started with yarn crafts. Rusty? Come to improve your skills. If you just want a group to sit and knit with, you’re welcome, too! Bring your work in progress, or if you don’t have yarn or needles, Ripping Yarns has loaners to get you started. Meet at 7 p.m., the Lawrence Public Library event space, 700 New Hampshire St. at 7 p.m.
