The nominations for the next Phoenix Awards, which honor local artists and art advocates, are now being accepted by the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission.

Every year, the commission honors individuals who contribute to the community by supporting the arts. Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 29.

There are 10 categories for five awards: Arts Advocate, Arts Administrator, Arts Education, Design Arts, Musical Arts, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Volunteer in the Arts and the Phoenix Award for Exceptional Artistic Achievement.
