Today in Lawrence: Rain, YA for adults and nerds unite
Rain in Lawrence
Break out the umbrellas once again: It’s going to be a damp day in Larryville. There are scattered storms forecast for today, with a 40 percent chance of rain. However, the showers will bring some relief from the heat with a high of about 79 degrees.
Nerds unite
This month’s Nerd Nite is a little later as it is partnering with the Free State Festival and the Lawrence Public Library. The theme of Nerd Nite 28 is “Free Souls and the State of Film.” Presenters include Laura Kirk, Vince Meserko and Chance Dibben. Nerd Nite of Lawrence is at 7 p.m. at the Alton Ballroom in Pachamamas, 800 New Hampshire St.
Fountain of youth
Young Adult-genre books are no longer published with just young adults in mind. Join local YA authors Tessa Gratton, Bethany Hagen, Mary O’Connell and Natalie Parker as they discuss why grownups love YA at “YA for Grownups,” part of the Summer in the City series from the Lawrence Public Library. They’ll talk about their own work and their publishing experiences. The event is at 7 p.m. at Signs of Life Gallery, 722 Massachusetts St.
