• Susan Bateman, co-owner of the Yarn Barn, recently appeared as the keynote speaker at the annual Kansas Alliance of Weavers and Spinners conference in Parkville, Mo. Her speech focused on keeping a small business afloat. She also taught a two-day workshop on the techniques of doubleweave.

• Lawrence’s Planning and Development Service Department will deliver a one-hour “Lunch and Learn” workshop Friday at City Hall, 6 E. Sixth St. The workshop runs from noon to 1 p.m. and will focus on the landscape elements of a commercial site plan. There is no cost to attend, but seating is limited. • Callahan Creek has hired Kevin Faddis as a copywriter. Faddis is a graduate of Kansas University and has been honored by several institutions for his work, according to a news release.

• Laurie Harrod Boyd, of Lawrence, has been promoted to vice president of finance for Heatron, Inc. in Leavenworth, the company announced. Boyd is a graduate of Pittsburg State University and first joined Heatron in 2002.

• The Lawrence Habitat for Humanity has named John Harvey as its new director of resource development. Harvey spent the previous 14 years as executive director for City Vision, a nonprofit based in the Kansas City area.
