Letter: Traffic awareness

To the editor:

I am not sure whose brilliant idea it was to close 31st Street doubling traffic on 23rd Street, then bring 23rd street down to one lane. At this point it really doesn’t matter; we have to deal with it.

But people driving west on 23rd Street need to start paying attention to what is going on in front of them.  If you are approaching Barker or Massachusetts streets and the pedestrian light is counting down, because the north/south traffic is getting a green light shortly, then you have to see if the traffic in front of you is moving. If it isn’t moving and you can’t clear the intersection before your light turns red, you need to stop before entering the intersection.

Most drivers get it, but there are some who block north-south traffic, because they aren’t paying attention.  I realize this detour is a headache, but with a little awareness, we can keep traffic moving without an accident.
