Today in Lawrence: Self-publishing tips and a 3-D movie

As part of the Summer in the City program, Jai Nitz will show you how to build your own Web comics and talk about self-publishing.

Oven-ready

The heat and wind are staying with us another day. Expect a high of around 94 today with gusty winds and humidity in the 65 to 70 percent range. We won’t catch a break on cooler temps until Thursday, when some rain is forecast. Until then, enjoy the blast-furnace weather.

Build your own comic

As part of the Summer in the City program at the Lawrence Public Library, comic book writer Jai Nitz will present Build Your Own Story. The session will cover how to build your own Web comic and how to self-publish your own creative work. The free program is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Building, 200 W. Ninth St.

Experience the Earth from a bird’s eye view, in 3-D, in “Wings 3D” from Emmy Award-nominated director John Downer and narrated by David Tennant, the current Doctor Who. The show will be at 7:30 p.m. at Southwind Stadium 12, 3433 S. Iowa St. Tickets are available at the theater box office or online at FathomEvents.com.
