The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will act as a local site for a worldwide swimming lesson campaign on June 20.
The World's Largest Swimming Lesson is organized by several of the nation's top water and training organizations to build awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim and prevent drowning, according to a news release from LPRD.
The event will take place at Lawrence's Outdoor Aquatic Center, located on the corner of Eighth and Kentucky streets. Participants are asked to arrive at 9:30 a.m. to complete registration. The lesson is free to the public.
Organizers of the swim lesson are hoping to set another Guinness World Record. An estimated 35,000 people participated last year, according to the release.
