One of the weekend’s crowning glories is the Theatre Lawrence performance of “The King and I,” 7:30 p.m., today and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Theatre Lawrence, 4660 Bauer Farm Drive. The show’s pageantry (and hoop skirts) are befitting royalty!


Science fiction for all

The intermingling of science fiction and reality will be one of the central topics of this year’s Campbell Conference, an annual event 35 years in the running. Hosted by Kansas University, the conference draws science fiction writers and readers for presentations, readings and conversations on the craft. Events will be at The Kansas Union, 1301 Jayhawk Blvd.


Movie under the stars

In the run-up to the Free State Festival, the Lawrence Arts Center is showing films outdoors on Friday evenings. The next outdoor film is “Kings of Summer,” a coming-of-age film that debuted at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Take your seats by 9 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., on the south side of the Arts Center in the preschool garden.

Rock out at the rock show

The Granada is hosting the sixth annual Richard’s Music Co. Rock Camp Concert this Saturday to end a three-week long music education program.
