Less than 24 hours after Wednesday morning’s juvenile bust, Lawrence police officers cited four women under 21 for consuming alcohol and using fake identification inside Jayhawk Café.

About 12:15 a.m. Thursday, officers conducted a bar check of the establishment at 1340 Ohio St. and encountered two 19-year-old women and a 20-year-old woman with fake identification drinking alcohol. The women received minor in possession and unlawful use of a driver’s license citations.

At 12:44 a.m., officers discovered another 19-year-old woman inside the Jayhawk Café. Though she did not have a fake ID on her, the woman admitted using one to get in and handing it through the fence to someone outside who also used it to enter the bar, police said.

The incidents came just a day after an incident inside Shots bar, 1001 Massachusetts St., where Lawrence police apprehended six teenagers and saw dozens of underage individuals flee the downtown bar.

An individual charged with an MIP can be ordered to serve up to 40 hours of community service, fined up to $500 and have his or her license suspended for 30 days up to a year. Those with fake or borrowed identification face fines of up to $1,000 and even a year in jail.

Bars hosting minors consuming alcohol in Kansas face fines up to $1,000. It takes four offenses for an establishment’s liquor license to be suspended for two weekend days. After eight violations, a bar can lose its liquor license altogether.
