Area athletes compete in far-off track meets

? Ottawa High’s Kord Ferguson won the shot put (63-7) and discus (196-02) at the Great Southwest Track & Field Classic at the University of New Mexico Saturday.

Baldwin senior Alexia Stein finished second in the girls’ shot put (42-9.5) and fifth in the discus (131-06).

Meanwhile, Free State senior Gabbi Dabney tied for 16th in the heptahlon with 3778 points. Senior Kiara Clark took 19th in the 300 hurdles (45.63) and 33rd in the 100 hurdles (15.52), and junior Ethan Donley placed 28th in the boys’ 800 (2:01.38).

Free State High sophomore Avin Lane took first place in the 100-meter dash (10.87 seconds), 200-meter dash and as an anchor in the 4×100 relay (45.7) at an AAU track and field district qualifying meet in El Dorado. Junior Ronald White was also on the relay team, competed in the 200 and finished fourth in the 100 (11.16).
