Three injured in weather-related crashes near Lawrence

Three people were injured in two weather-related crashes this morning on Interstate 70 near Lawrence.

At around 8:20 a.m., a vehicle driven by Amanda N. Early, 21, of Kansas City, Mo., was westbound near mile marker 190 when it hydroplaned, went into the ditch and struck an embankment, according to the Kansas Turnpike Authority. Early was injured and taken to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, where she was treated and released, the hospital said. She was wearing a seat belt.

About 10 minutes later, a vehicle driven by Kayla Carter, 42, of Topeka, was eastbound near mile marker 197 when it hydroplaned, went off the roadway and overturned, KTA reported. The driver and a passenger — Bailey Carter, 18, of Topeka — were both injured in the crash and taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. They were treated and released, according to the hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.
