Today in Lawrence: Lawrence Civic Choir, butterflies in bloom, and writers visit The Raven

The Lawrence Civic Choir performs at Liberty Hall on Friday, June 6.

Off Broadway

The Lawrence Civic Choir presents “On Broadway! A Cabaret,” at 8 p.m. Friday at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. The show is open to all ages; doors open at 7:30. General admission balcony tickets are $10 and available at the box office and on Ticketmaster. GA tickets for the floor tables are $25 and must be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com/event/631107. There will be a cash bar, and silent auction items will be available for bidding.

Butterflies in flight

See thousands of Emperor Hackberry butterflies emerge Friday at the Fitch Natural History Reservation at the KU Field Station. The site is northeast of the Lawrence Municipal Airport. Past years have seen butterflies forming colorful clouds and landing on anything with traces of sugar, including visitors. Scientists from the KU Natural History Museum and Kansas Biological Survey will be on-site from 1 to 3 p.m.

Writers at The Raven

The Raven Book Store will host Lawrence-based poets Tom Mach and Ronda Miller at 7 p.m. Friday. Mach received the Nelson Poetry Book Award for his previous poetry collection entitled “The Uni Verse.” Miller’s poems can be found in the Kansas anthology edited by Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, “To the Stars Through Difficulties.” The Raven will host mystery writer Scott Phillips at 7 p.m. Saturday. Phillips is the author of “The Ice Harvest,” “The Walkaway,” “Cottonwood,” “The Adjustment” and “Rake.” The Raven Book Store is at 6 E. Seventh St.
