Today in Lawrence: Road closure; adopt a pet for $3

Road closure

Eastbound and westbound 31st Street from Louisiana Street to approximately a quarter-mile west and Louisiana Street just south of 31st Street in Lawrence (Douglas County) will be closed 24/7 for construction work beginning at 7 a.m., today through summer 2015, weather permitting.

Wading pool open

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department has opened the South Park Wading Pool, 1141 Massachusetts St., for the summer season. The wading pool will be open from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-6 p.m. Saturdays and closed Sundays. It will be closed on July 4. South Park Wading Pool has a zero-depth entry pool, water sprays and fountains. It is free and open to the public and open to children ages 6 and younger.

Art opening

The opening reception for photographer Camron Flanders is from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pachamamas Restaurant & Star Bar, 800 New Hampshire St. Flanders, a Lawrence native who has returned to his home state from Florida, will have work on display at Pachamamas through the month of June.

$3 adoption fees

The Lawrence Humane Society is celebrating 63 years of being the first animal welfare organization in Douglas County by having $3 adoption fees on all available animals 6 months and older.
