Police: Warrant service at Lawrence home connected to Topeka homicide

Authorities were dispatched to a Lawrence home near the intersection of 27th and Louisiana streets earlier this morning, surrounding the residence and blocking traffic on nearby streets.

Topeka police, with the assistance of Lawrence Police Department tactical crews, were on the scene to execute a “high-risk” search warrant in connection to a recent homicide in Topeka.

Sgt. Byron Endsley, a Topeka Police Department spokesman, said the warrant stemmed from a shooting yesterday afternoon in Topeka’s Freedom Valley Park that left one person dead and two others injured.

According to a statement from TPD, authorities have arrested Jourdan M. Hunt, 24, of Topeka, in connection to the homicide.

The statement identified the homicide victim as Germaul L. Rayton, 20, of Topeka. The victim and suspect were known to each other.

Police are no longer searching for a red SUV, having located it in Lawrence, the statement said.

Two Topeka men, ages 18 and 21, have been released from Stormont-Vail Hospital, where they were treated for gunshot wounds, Endsley said.

Sunday morning’s warrant service “went without incident,” said Sgt. Trent McKinley of the Lawrence Police Department, and all units have cleared the area.
