Today in Lawrence: Carnival at the fairgrounds, and live music all over town

Turn your world upside down at family night at the Douglas County Fair's carnival, 6 to 11 p.m.

Warming trend

The temperature starts its upward creep today, with a high of 87 degrees forecast. It’s a great day to go to the pool or hit the golf course, as mostly sunny skies are expected with little in the way of wind. The rest of the week will see the highs continue to go up, so rejoice, summer-lovers!

Fair’s fare

It’s family night at the carnival at the Douglas County Fair! Moore’s Greater Shows will have all of your favorite rides — ride your favorites over and over or try something new this year! After the world has stopped spinning, take in live music with the band SELLOUT in the black top area. The carnival is from 6 to 11 p.m. and the music is from 7 to 10 p.m. The Douglas County Fairgrounds are at 2110 Harper St.

Sidewalk jams

It’s the last show of the summer: See the final Brown Bag Concert Series, featuring BRC Sounds, from noon to 1 p.m. in front of US Bank, 900 Massachusetts St. Bring a blanket or folding chair and your lunch for some midday music.
