Emergency crews evacuated several homes and blocked traffic along the 3100 block of W. 29th Terrace in response to a gas leak on Tuesday evening, but the leak was repaired without incident.

Lyle Schwartz, a Lawrence-Douglas County fire-medical division chief, said crews were dispatched to the scene about 5:45 p.m. He said crews confirmed a leak but ultimately did not find a reading that concerned them about an explosion.

The leak was stopped about an hour later and residents returned to their homes.
