Chalmers golf: Former Kansas University basketball standout and current Miami Heat point guard Mario Chalmers will host the Sixth Annual Mario V. Chalmers Foundation Golf Tournament and VIP Mixer on July 28 at Alvamar. For information, visit www.mariovchalmersfoundation.org
Henrickson golf tourney: The 10th-annual Bonnie Henrickson Golf Tournament will take place Aug. 23 at Alvamar Golf and Country Club. Registration is now open for singles, pairs and foursomes. All proceeds from the tournament support Kansas women’s basketball and the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Breast Center. The event begins at 1 p.m., with a shotgun start of the four-person scramble. Dinner will follow an afternoon of golf starting at 6 p.m. and includes a live and silent auction. Prizes will be awarded for best men’s and women’s teams, best mixed team, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one. Sponsorships are also available. Baldwin triathlon: The Maple Leaf City Sprint Triathlon will be held at 7:30 a.m., July 26 in Baldwin City. The triathlon is a 300-yard swim in the Baldwin City Pool, a 12-mile bike ride and a three-mile run. For information, visit http://www.baldwinrec.org/maple-leaf-city-sprint-triathlon
Free State golf tourney: A golf tournament to help the Free State High boys soccer team get new uniforms will be held July 27 at Eagle Bend. Registration will be 12:30 p.m., with first tee-off at 1 p.m. and a cookout approximately 6:30 p.m. Entry fee is $75, with payment due July 11. Free State fall softball camp: Free State High will host its five-tool softball camp for grades 4 through 8 over five Sundays this fall at Free State’s varsity softball field. Position camp begins Aug. 24 and continues Sept. 7, 14 and 21. Girls lacrosse camp: Lawrence All-City Lacrosse Club will hold its first girls lacrosse camp, 9-11 a.m., July 21-24 at Bishop Seabury Academy. Girls of all ages and levels of experience are welcome. Camp will focus on the fundamentals and provide high reps in cradling, passing, catching, ground balls and shooting. In conjunction with skill development, girls will be taught basic rules and game strategy through scrimmages. Cost is $55 or a family price of $25 per sibling. Family Promise golf/auction: The 2014 Family Promise Golf Tournament and Auction Party will be held Sept. 14-15. The Auction Party will be held Sept. 14 at Maceli’s and feature hot food, wine, beer and soft drinks. Bidders will vie for both silent- and live-auction items ranging in value from $25 gift certificates to vacation trips to Florida and Napa Valley. The golf tournament will be held Sept. 15 at Alvamar. Four-person teams will compete in two flights in a scramble format. Registration fees include lunch, golf and cart, dinner and beverages both on and off the course, plus two admissions to the auction party. The events have raised $240,000 over the past five years to benefit homeless children and their families in Lawrence. Non-golfers can purchase tickets to the auction party separately. Lawrence Fury: The Lawrence Fury Fastpitch organization will be adding a new 10U team for the 2014-2015 season, with tryouts being held at 10 a.m. July 26. Field location will be posted at a later date. The Fury 10U team will center on teaching the game — with a dedicated focus to developing the particular fundamentals of softball. The goal of the Fury approach is to create a comprehensive experience for parents and athletes that is second to none. Lawrence Coyote: The Lawrence Coyote won the USSSA Kansas 11 AA state championship on June 29. At the four-day tournament, the Coyote went 7-0 after recovering from an eight-run deficit in the title game to win, 10-9. Team members were: Daniel Kufahl, Carter Lynch, Reed Wilson, William Rau, Colin Marett, Billy Welch, Cael Lynch, Joshua Maynard, Devin Neal, George Dobson and Graham Hough. The team’s coaches were Paul Wilson, Greg Rau and Les Lynch. The Coyote play in the DCABA U12 National League in Lawrence.
Football camp: The Lawrence Hurricane youth football organization is hosting a one-day, nonpad camp Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dad Perry Park East. Youth tennis: Lawrence Country Club junior tennis teams competed in the USTA Heart of America district tournament Wednesday and qualified for the sectional meet on July 21-24 in Tulsa, Okla. The 14-under team took first, and the 18-under team took third. The 18U members: Tyler Darnall, Cooper Rasmussen, Seamus Ryan, Jack Edmonds, Carter Stacey, Andrea Chen, Natalie Myers and Nina Givotovsky. The 14U members: Hayley Rasmussen, Chloe Thornton, Anna Peard, Kalia Fowler, Liam Elliott, Graham Edmonds and Kanak Masten. The teams are coached by Joe Ahmadian.
