Today in Lawrence: Enjoy the weather!

Two meetings today will give people the chance to have a better understanding of how a transit center would function in Lawrence and what it would offer to the community.

Un-summery day

It’s a sunroof open kind of day, with a high of only 76 degrees. If you forgot to leave your windows open last night, you have another chance tonight as the low drops to 53 degrees overnight. There’s no rain in the forecast, either; think about packing a picnic lunch today!

Opinions matter

If you want a chance to weigh in on construction of a future transit center at 21st and Iowa, today is your chance. A public meeting regarding the future transit center is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carnegie Building, 200 W. Ninth St. Topics discussed at the public meetings will include what a transit center is, how to approach restructuring services and the proposed location.

Fresh and fun

Getting into a food rut this summer? Mix it up with fresh goods from the Farmers’ Market. The market offers local food at a great value, and the weather will be perfect for a stroll through the booths of more than 100 vendors. They have everything from fresh vegetables, fruits and meat to eggs, honey, wine and prepared foods. The market starts at 4 p.m. at 824 New Hampshire St.
