The city’s brush site at the Wood Recovery and Composting Facility, 1420 E. 11th St., remains open for residents wanting to deposit storm debris from Monday night’s storm.

City of Lawrence spokeswoman Megan Gilliland said the city is not charging for dropoffs this week. The site is accepting storm debris between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Compost and wood chips sales will occur at the facility on Saturday during those hours, as well.

The city will also pick up tree limbs and debris on Monday with the regularly scheduled yard waste collection. Gilliland said materials should be in a trash can, a city yard-waste or trash cart or a compostable paper bag. Debris cannot stick out more than 12 inches above the container’s opening.

Bundles of tree and brush trimmings will also be accepted with the collection Monday. Each bundle must be no longer than 5 feet long or 18 inches in diameter and weigh no more than 65 pounds. Bundles can be tied only with string or twine, not with wire, duct tape or by other means.

If debris is too large for property owners to cut up and bundle for the collection on Monday, Gilliland said the city will be working to clear debris placed at the curb between Tuesday and Friday of next week.

As of Thursday, City officials did not have an update to the extent of the damage caused by Monday’s storm, which had winds as high as 75 mph. Gilliland said the storm damaged residents’ cars, homes and other property, as well as uprooting trees and strewing limbs throughout the city. Officials have been working to tally the damage throughout the week.
