Today in Lawrence: Deal with the heat; art exhibit; Lilith Fair karaoke

Out of the frying pan

It’s going to be a hot one today: A high temperature of 97 degrees is forecast, with a heat index of 103. Considering the relatively mild weather we’ve had so far this summer, today might be less beach bum and more blast furnace. The humidity may segue into thunderstorms at night.

Drawn to art

Cool off indoors with a little art stroll. Lawrence Arts Center has “Urban Tribal Strangers In Paradox: A solo exhibition by Justin Baldwin” from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Antecedent Gallery. Baldwin, a Lawrence native, now works underground — literally. He uses New York subway cars as his drawing studio. The exhibit, at 904 New Hampshire St., is curated by Roger Shimomura.

Ladies first

Ever wanted to travel back in time, musically, but maybe not too far back? The Lilith-Faire-a-oke will take you back to the late ’90s with songs from the women’s music tour from artists such as Indigo Girls, Paula Cole and tour founder Sarah McLachlan. So brush up on your songstress tunes and head to the Sandbar, 17 E. Eighth St., at 7 p.m. for a night of women and music!
