Man indicted on federal charges in Lawrence credit union robbery

A Kansas City, Kan., man was indicted on federal charges of robbing a Lawrence credit union, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Wednesday.

Antonio P. Gaitan, 35, is charged with one count of bank robbery, after an April 5 robbery at Truity Credit Union, 3400 W. 6th St., Grissom said.

Gaitan is currently in federal custody and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if he is convicted.

Lawrence police and the FBI investigated the incident, and U.S. Attorney Mike Warner is prosecuting.
