Lawrence man arrested after wielding knife, stealing Bic lighters

Wielding a knife and stealing two Bic lighters landed a 31-year-old Lawrence man in jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

Leon Louis Small Bear was booked into Douglas County Jail after Lawrence police arrested him Thursday. As of Friday afternoon, he was in jail with no bail.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, said the victim and Small Bear were consuming alcohol and listening to music in the victim’s apartment when Small Bear removed a folding knife from his pocket. McKinley said Small Bear “began playing with” the knife and the victim eventually became concerned about his actions. When the victim left the apartment, McKinley said, Small Bear allegedly began chasing him.

McKinley said Small Bear stole two Bic lighters from the victim during the incident. No one was injured.

Police arrested Small Bear in the 1700 block of West 24th Square just after 1:45 p.m.
