Topeka ? Free State High placed third on Tuesday at the 12-team Topeka Swimming and Diving Invitational.

Freshman Jordan Portela led the way for the Firebirds with victories in the 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter butterfly.

Lawrence High placed seventh overall, edging out Salina Central by two points.

Tim Schraad had the top performance of the day for LHS, a 10th-place finish in the 100-meter butterfly.
