Change jars at The Merc to benefit Independence Inc. in February

Throughout the month of February, donation jars at the The Merc Co-op, 901 Iowa St., will benefit Independence Inc. as part of the Merc’s Change Program.

All change donated through jars at the cash registers will go to the nonprofit, which helps Douglas County residents with a broad spectrum of disabilities live more independent lives. In addition to the change donations, Independence Inc. will receive the 5-cent bag refund normally given to Merc shoppers. Customers also will be given the opportunity to round up to the nearest dollar of purchase amount, with the difference donated to Independence Inc.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 5, the nonprofit will have staff members at an informational table inside the co-op.
