KU swimmers win everything at meet; sophomore sets record

Kansas University’s swimming and diving team placed first in every event against Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday at Robinson Natatorium.

The Jayhawks outscored the Trojans, 148-96.

Sophomore Chelsie Miller broke school and pool records in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:51.70.

“We thought she would beat the pool record, but we weren’t expecting her to beat the school record,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “That was a big swim for her. We wanted to put emphasis on the 1,000 because that is how they seed the mile at the conference championships. We wanted to make sure she had a good seed and she definitely did that. She has been rock solid with everything. What she did in the meet today was just an extension of what she does every day.”

Miller also won the 400 IM (4:27.73) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.71).

KU’s other multi-event winners: Haley Molden (200 free, 100 free) and Yulduz “Yulya” Kuchkarova (100 back, 200 back, 200 medley relay), Sofiia Filatova (200 fly, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay), Lea Wissocq (50 free, 200 free relay), Morgan Sharp (500 free, 200 free relay), Pia Pavlic (100 fly, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay), Bryce Hinde (100 back, 200 medley relay), and Meredith Brownell (1-meter dive, 3-meter dive).
